Vilchez Lab

Proteostasis of Aging and Stem Cells

Welcome to the Vilchez Lab — a passionate team of scientists dedicated to exploring aging, stem cells, neurodegenerative diseases, and the biology of proteostasis

Curious to see what we do? Check out our research summary video: https://youtu.be/kalsrf1ZbQ0

At the Vilchez Lab, we investigate how key biological processes—such as protein homeostasis (proteostasis), epigenetic changes, post-transcriptional modifications, and cell non-autonomous signaling—regulate stem cell function, influence aging, and contribute to age-related neurodegenerative diseases. Our ultimate goal is to uncover the mechanisms that drive regeneration and promote a longer, healthier lifespan. To achieve this, we take an innovative, interdisciplinary approach that integrates cutting-edge proteomics, human stem cell research, iPSC-based disease modeling, and genetic studies using the model organism C. elegans.
